As one of the largest design practices in the world, CallisonRTKL has a significant influence on the state of the built environment, which gives us a tremendous responsibility and opportunity to create communities, buildings and interior spaces that have an enduring positive impact on the world. The accepted market standard for sustainable design is the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. CallisonRTKL now has hundreds of LEED-accredited professionals and LEED-certified or equivalent projects, including more than two dozen Gold and Platinum, the highest possible ratings. Some of our projects are the first or largest of their kind, including the first LEED Gold retail mall in the Middle East (Mirdif City Centre), the first LEED Platinum building in Miami (Brickell), the first Platinum LEED EB project on the East Coast (1225 Connecticut), the first LEED Silver Data Center in the US (Highmark), and the largest LEED Gold federal building (National Geospatial-Intelligence Headquarters). CallisonRTKL also received the first LEED Gold certification for a private development in Seattle for 2201 Westlake. While CallisonRTKL’s credentials with LEED are strong, we also recognize that it and similar standards are generic guidelines, which is why we have developed a fully integrated, proprietary approach to sustainable design. Developed by CallisonRTKL professionals, PDD aims to provide as much value as possible by tailoring design solutions to the needs of the specific clients and communities we serve. By drawing on ample evidence about the social, economic and environmental impact of design, PDD seeks to apply the greatest available intelligence to create compelling design with measurable benefits to people, place and planet. PDD was instrumental in the design of the San Antonio Military Medical Complex (SAMMC) in San Antonio, TX, which was selected as one of the 2015 “Top Ten Green Projects” by the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment (AIA COTE). The annual awards program honors sustainable projects that use a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems and technology.
